Guy Vinall
I've just removed the old thermostat and before refitting, wanted to enquire if the gasket is straight to metal, or should have sealant both sides?
astontr6
Just now, Guy Vinall said: I've just removed the old thermostat and before refitting, wanted to enquire if the gasket is straight to metal, or should have sealant both sides? Hi Guy! Use the gasket made by Klinger which is better than the original. Moss sell them! That one requires no sealant. Bruce.
jerrytr5
Should be OK without sealant so personal preference. I use blue hylomar both sides as the sealing area is relatively small and the bolt spacing quite large. Make sure the housing face is flat, it tends not to be over time. Mike C
I use non setting sealant both sides. You want to check the housing mating faces for pitting and incipient porosity- I've had to replace one or two housings over the years.
SpitFireSIX
A few Christmas Cards. Sealant not required but no harm.
