John Morrison
I was going to type, 'Thanks to Lockdown' but thought better, so thanks to the recent extra time we've all had, I've turned to my long term 3A project, and I'm thinking about final colours. Does anyone have the modern codes for Triumph Black, and Silverstone Grey, my car built in Sept 59, and registered march 1960 John.

John Morrison
Thanks Hamish, thats useful as I really like the look of your car. There actually many, many shades of Black, and some do notsuit particular cars. John.

Mobihel RAL 9005 just had a couple aerosol made up and it’s a good match. hope you find the colours you like. it worse choosing the colour, rather than buying a car already done black does show every Mark though and I’m not much of a polisher so I let it down in the TR paddock Edited November 24, 2020 by Hamish
iain
I can’t help with the new paint codes but do have the old ones and formulas if interested. Iain
John Morrison
Thanks Ian, maybe a good idea, I saw Silverstone Grey, in a photo, and rather liked it but of course, tracking down todays recipe may be difficult. Cheers, John.

iain
Paint formulae, old style, expressed as percentages of tint. I have paint chips for all of these which could be scanned. 250
John/Iain, I went through several websites and talked to people to find a definite code for Silverstone Grey (seems to be mainly used on TR3 in the USA) I got several companies to mix me samples the final one based on ICI 3277 and got close. Spoke to Ken (Ken and Lyn) and he couldn't find it in his original paint manuals or recognise the Valentine, PPG, Martin Senour codes and said it was not easy to mix to the tint %. I finally agreed on a colour I was happy with and had a swatch made and sent it to Ken who mixed to suit and made me enough to paint the car and have some left over I'm sure it isn't a perfect match, see photo below during restoration light not the best it's lighter in sunlight, but I'm Happy.
