I have fitted the throttle linkage to my 5 and can see a problem. The parts are all original refurbished from a well respected supplier, and supplied as a unit. The issue is that the Fast Idle Cam is about 10mm away from the adjusting screw even with the screw undone to it's maximum extent. The throttle stop bracket is also preventing any further adjustment. I hope the attached images illustrate the issue more clearly. Has anybody any idea what the solution is please.

Many thanks,

Tim

I've had a look at mine, the central stop bracket with the stop bolt on mine the bracket is more of a right angle, this would allow the shaft to twist up more, you would have to lengthen the rods to the butterflies.

This would the make the choke cam a little more close, the cam doesn't look quite the same as mine the stop pin is in a slightly different place, allowing the outer end to drop a bit more.

I could try and get some photos if that would help?

Who supplied it Tim, if its a Prestige one we`ve had problems like that with them before, badly made.

John, do you mean the throttle stop bracket is more of a right angle?

Pictures always help, so, yes please.

Stuart, not sure but have now asked the question. I believe it was NF.

Can it be sorted just by fitting a longer screw, or is that too simplistic!!?

Many thanks,

Tim

He doesnt make them they would have been supplied by someone else. But yes a longer screw would probably do the trick.

Stuart.

Stuart, I have a feeling that the linkage was original and refurbished by Neil, supplied by Conrad.

I will go down the longer screw route. Is there any merit in reworking the throttle stop bracket to nearer 90 degrees?

John, many thanks for the photos.

You appear to have plenty of thread left on the throttle rods ? also you should consider fitting rose jointed ones far better and more adjustment.

Nothing has actually been set up as yet. Was just doing a dry run to ensure that I had all necessary parts ...... and I didn't!!

The rods are from Fred Millturn, https://fredmillturnparts.com/parts-list-and-ordering/

Are you agreeing that the linkage is correct but the rods are incorrect?

Good Morning Tim

I make original spec countershafts and linkage rods. I have come across this problem when customers fit my kit (even some of the TR specialists!). The issue is that the countershaft is over rotated in the idle position and this is usually resolved by adjusting the linkage rods (winding them out to make them longer). However in your case it appears that the countershaft is already against the throttle stop. As pointed out by John, your throttle stop appears to be bent down. If you bend it up it should allow you to back the countershaft off which will bring the screw close to the cam and also ensure full throttle opening. See attached pics of the set up on my test engine (apologies but couldn't insert pics the right way up!. If you do need a longer screw I can also send one out to you.

Kind regards

Martin (Fred Millturn)

Hello Martin,

nice to see a supplier taking time and effort answering and helping members.

Very many thanks Martin. I will get my hammer out, and may take you up on the offer of a longer screw - that doesn't really sound right but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Eldest son getting married on Saturday so will make this a job for next week.

Thanks again,

Tim

extending your connecting rods should help towards solving this along with the longer screw rather than hammer.

As Neil mentioned are they the correct length rods

Hi Jochem

An owner that makes bits that are no longer available to keep our cars on the road is probably a better description.

Kind regards

Hi Neil

I supplied the rods and confirm they are made to same spec as the originals.

Kind regards

Hi Roy

Agreed - I think Tim is going to adjust (bend) the fixed stop to allow this.

Kind regards

On my CP I also found the 3 linkage rods (I have the ball type, not the original ones) had to be almost fully “out” for fully opening the butterflies.

Hi Tim

I couldn't work out how to insert a picture in the PM! So I posted on the original thread. I will send these bits out to you in the morning. The cam screws I have are only an inch long so I have made up a longer one for you, although I'm sure it will not be necessary once everything is set up correctly. I will also send down an original throttle stop so you can see what the angle should be. I will also enclose a new one from one of my remanufactured countershafts. You can use the remanufactured one if you want, just send me back the two you don't use. Are there any other bits you want to borrow? As per our phone call, email me if you want any pictures, measurements etc as you go.

Kind regards

Martin (Fred Millturn)

WOW!  I don't suppose I could borrow you to come down and fit it all as well!

That is all amazingly thoughtful of you and will be incredibly helpful for me.

Very many thanks and I look forward to receiving the bits in the next few days.

All the best,

Tim
