Peter Dracup
Just done a compression test on my TR 6 Dry results are 1-185, 2-175, 3-170, 4-175, 5-180, 6-180 Wet results are 1-275, 2-210, 3-220, 4-195, 5-300, 6-275 Not sure what the readings from the wet tests on 2, 4 and 5 are telling me? Mike C
The results should be closer than that, even if the rings are worn- I suspect you have added too much oil to the cylinders. I'd repeat the wet test. Run the engine to burn the oil out, add 2 squirts with an oil can to each cylinder, turn the engine over about 5 times to distribute the oil then retest. You need to be careful adding oil for wet compression tests- too much can bend a connecting rod.
Peter Dracup
Mike, Many thanks for the advice. I’ll retest as you suggest. Peter
john.r.davies
What are you expecting the oil test to tell you? Don't do a test unless you know the answer, it how to interpret it. The oil test will tell if a significantly low pressure is due to piston, or valve leak. That's all. Your dry tests are within 10% +/- so no probs. Carry on!
