Richiep
Hi All, I have a CR Series TR6, that should have a black teardrop shaped gear knob.. which has disappeared long ago.. It has been replaced with an aftermarket wooden one, which has developed a split (not long after fitting).. because it had to be screwed on a long way, so it didn’t pull of when selecting reverse..! so I get the feeling it will happen a lot! I was hoping to find an original style one but maybe in steel, rather than plastic, so it would last.. does anyone know if there is anywhere that makes them? if not.. can anyone with an original one post photos.. and dimensions, so I can ask quotes at places to get one made please! I’d also need the thread details please.. :-) many thanks in advance.. Richard
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Sounds like a search for hen's teeth to get a good original CR gearknob. PtNo156138. Strange thing is we struggled to sell those when they were available as everyone wanted the ball shaped earlier knob. Nearest correctly threaded teardrop knob with the correct gear gates engraved is the AH Sprite one. https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/gear-knob-standard-22g110.html?assoc=506509 or http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Interior/Gear knobs/22G110.aspx?1703&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/interior/gear~knobs.aspx|Back to shop Here is the same shaped knob with a thread in Aluminium. http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Interior/Gear knobs/22G110ALLOY.aspx?1703&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/interior/gear~knobs.aspx|Back to shop It is a smaller teardrop that the original 156138 The earlier TR6 knob which is a black Bakelite ball is also available see items 27 on here https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/external-gearbox-tr5-6-1967-76.html As you have spotted the lack of a retaining thread lets the knob be heaved off as you engage reverse. Tim D.
Just to add to the thread that Peter quoted. I did get the correct knob in the end. Those sold on ebay were very expensive, but I found one eventually that was advertised incorrectly for a spitfire. Hence the price was very reasonable. It is different to the midget one which i also have as I own a midget. Cheers Tim
