So maybe 3 and a half from seated you think should be good starting point. Well i have a colour tune and also the old school hoss and pop with the garden hose used to work well for me. As you said though, all the air/fuel mixture screw does is control the idle system flow. The mix is regulated by the idle jet. Its a science for sure. I will get it as close as I can.

Nope

Two and a half but a colour will only give you a base, no good for normal throttle in all driving conditions.

If you are really interested in weber there is a guy on the net called Keith Francks who did loads on getting them to work properly. Really really complex stuff.

Great reference if you have a LOTUS, his focus and I believe origin of his study. I have a LUCITE fuel depth gauge from him.

For TRs, I think the particulars diverge from his perspective. I recently saw that he only deals with (1) emulsion tube, the F11 which was used in the LOTUS application. While some have had success with it on TRs, most use other ones and in my case it's at least 3 down on my list of what gives the best results on a 6-pot 2.5 TR engine.

He also advises a high float level of 25mm below the top of the well, in effect the maximum height before drowning the venturis in fuel when cornering. 27 or 28mm is deep enough in my experience, and even that is a higher level than " standard " for the 40 DCOE.

Webers are not really complicated from a tuner's point of view. For those that had to do the design and engineering, perhaps. Fitted to U.S. market TRIUMPHs they add value nowadays, based on recent auction results like this one: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-triumph-gt6-6/

Thats really interesting Tom. I had followed Keith in the past when I had an elan. He even helped tune it over Skype.  I hadn't considered that it was so lotus specific. He was Interested in my car as it was on delortos.  Out of interest has a TR6 ever been set up on delortos?

I always though the dellortos were less trouble than the webers.  In particular the choke seemed to be a much better design.

smaller idle jets or bigger?

For my car and set up, went from 60F8 to 65F8.

Also changed the plugs to NGK B6HS with gap set at 34 thou'. Slightly hotter than standard and I think, slightly shorter.

I have 45s with 36 chokes, so it is all very set-up specific, as I think you are finding.
