David Owen
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with 3D printed parts.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
My daughter made me a SouthBend/Boxford lathe carriage stop from a file found on thingiverse.com it required only bolts to fit and a touch of fettling with a file. David Owen
Thank you. I am wondering if it would be possible to produce a new frame.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Frame for what? The operating bed of the printer would limit the size of what you intend to produce. Cheers Peter W
YOW500
Hi Peter. My effort was not as complex as the above. In order to prove the TR2 - 3 door lock mechanisms I first 3D printed the components prior to a small production run in steel. The windscreen stanchion plate patterns were also made, for casting in bronze. I was fortunate that my partner was a CAD technician in a previous life !!!!!!. I'm sure there are other components that could be made, although very time consuming, and size constricting during the printing process, for the domestic type of machine. Prototyping design, or pattern making, as in the case of the thermostat housing are the obvious ways to go, with the ability to make changes quickly, without having to resort to woodwork!!! mikej
More by accident, I discovered that the PLA I was using for face shields seemed resistant to petrol so I conducted a soak test and found < 5% swell with no surface stickiness after 6 weeks full immersion. I have now produced a number of devices that push fit into the TR2-6 tank filler neck to prevent accidentally filling with diesel. Three months on there is no sign of any swell or surface change. Plan to make an emergency (only) thermostat housing, if it works then produce one in resin.
