I hsed a poly-urethane air (moist) setting paint. Sold by several suppliers, and you can almost not damage /chip it with a rounded head hammer. Chemical (oil/fuel) resistant too.

I used Halfords brush applied engine paint around 4 years ago now, still looks as good as the day it went on. Block was dipped and bare metal. I just degreased it.

+1 for Halfords brush on engine paint. Stir will before starting and note that it's thin, so can run quite easily.

House radiator paint is good too. and cheaper.

I'm surprised by this suggestion and wouldn't have thought that radiator paint would cope with the temperature ranges.  Or be designed to manage the damp / wet.

Nice paint too.   I used their Boxford blue lathe paint to recondition my lathe during recent isolation.   You need the correct thinners to go with the paint.
