This is probably old hat to most but I had not come across before. The fuse depicted looked fine to me and I was looking elsewhere in  a circuit for the break. As an afterthought I eventually tested the fuse and found it open circuit. It appears this type of fuse can fail where the central element is soldered and of course this blow cannot be seen.

Probably just a fatigue failure of the joint due to old age.  Too many thermal cycles. It can happen with any type of fuse, not just these ones.

There are some very cheap and poor quality fuses around of the old glass type, a search on the forum should show where to get the good ones. They are 3 or 4 times dearer than the cheapest but have the correct rating.
