Looking to replace my 1970 TR6 spark plugs whilst fitting a Lucas Gold coil, have read a lot about NGK plugs but no mention of fitting Champion plugs any reason for this, any preference ?

thanks

Phil

Whatever you fit, make sure they are gapped correctly...some modern plugs are gapped for electronic ignitions with much stronger sparks & bigger gaps...check/adjust the plugs before you fit.

Hi Phil,

after a  number of years of good service  my NGK's would fail after 1000 miles.

I changed to Champion L87 (4 pot TR4A) and they last for at least 5000 miles.

It maybe that the NGK's are not fake but have become modern. I have read somewhere that many modern plugs are now being manufactured for modern engine technology.  These engines tend to burn leaner for longer and thus the plugs are always dry.

Our ancient lumps run very wet in comparison and the TR6 6 pot is wetter than the 4 pot. THis continuous damp state gets into the plug ceramic and causes chaos.

This may be a load of rubbish but it could explain to issue.

Roger
