JochemsTR
Hello, Item 94. What material should Gear (96) be? This is the gear into the camshaft. I have a carburator shaft which has a steel gear , and a PI shaft which seems to be out of brass (?). The PI driveshaft has a mounted bearing, any play or measurements I need to consider? Brown Bible only refers to end-float using paper gaskets. (109). Edited June 19, 2020 by JochemsTR
john.r.davies
Steel, I think, although they seem to have a yellow finish.
Waldi
Think so too. Check the pins for wear. I did as the BB instructed. And check the amount of engagement with the oil pump peg.I do not have a dimension for that. Waldi
JochemsTR
...not sure....does not seem steel with yellow finish.. Edited June 20, 2020 by JochemsTR
BlueTR3A-5EKT
The big gear that meshes with the cam is pt No 126785, same as used on both PI and Carb TR5/250/6. The finish looks like copper plating (for wear resistance) on steel. Get the end float on this gear wrong and you will either have random timing due to the gear shuttling up and down or if too tight a cam with a missing tooth.
