Gearstick gaiter and rubber

Recommended Posts

Hi Peter

Here is one solution that solved the problem for me on my 4A, unfortunately you do not have the H frame fitted. I made it out of stainless sheet.

I have something similar it comes from an (are we all sitting down) MGB!

The mg owners club have them on the shelf for not very much and with a bit of care fit quite well

Only thing is its not a good fit on the "H" frame that has the slight lip up on it.

Hi Stuart

My November 72 TR6 has no lip, is there different H frame types maybe for earlier cars?

George

Yes earlier cars did.

Stuart.

I used the Chrome MGB version on my 3A.

It takes a bit of bending to the curve of the tunnel, but it looks OK. It’s attached to the carpet with a ring of 6mm MDF underneath and all bolted together. That means that you can remove the gear knob (Old chrome door handle)  and lift it all out with the carpet.

I have another section of rubber that goes inside the one that’s showing in your pic, and the gaiter covers them both.

Sitting in the garage waiting to be fitted one day.

Hi Mark,

Part no. 48 is inside the gaiter, fixed with staples.

have used Velcro between the boot and gaiter, we will see it it works?

Item 48 is an alternative top gaiter to 47 the design was not to use both. On my 4A just the two parts fit fine but you do have to get the item 49 in the correct orientation. If the parts have been made correctly then 47 is a good fit in the inner groove of 49 and won't come out. You may have an incorrect part, both my parts came from Moss.
