Front valance off which was just pop riveted onto the car, in the process of removing the passenger front wing so I can drill out the pop rivets holding the front light panel on.

TBH it looks like a pretty good basis to start with, the dent your on about in the arch is supposed to be there and you are missing the wing beadings on top of front and rear wings. The dash you have

Jase, I know these are strange times but I also live in Bridgend and have a 1962 TR4 and would normally offer you the opportunity to come and use as a reference or just a chat. Have you cont

Having spent quite a lot of time going through the car I decided to do an essential run today and drive it for the first time and pick up some petrol, just a few shots back on the drive and my essenti

The front panel still has a partial Stanpart sticker on it.

Looks like your missing the infill panels from the front end of the front wings to valence. Item number 70 here https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/en-gb/front-inner-body-panels-tr4-4a-1961-67-tr24--11--02--05

Hi Jase,

Stuart is being kind with what he says here, it was 4 years ago but the pair I had barely fitted where they touched!! .. and took an awful lot twisting, bending, cutting and bashing to get them anywhere near where they should be, ........ I seem to remember at the start of your TR journey you gathering up a whole bunch of metal forming tools, you'd be far better off and find it more satisfying to make your own,..... a couple of hours with that English Wheel and you could start a production line!!!

Cheers Rob

The latest repros aren’t quite as bad as they were, here’s one next to an original

I’ve just been looking at the pictures, I think it would be fairly straightforward with the roller and jenny to make these up. Will have a play:

Whilst the arches aren’t right should I leave them, seem to have worked for the last 35 years. Could make my own I guess.

They’re a sort of DIY wheel arch protectors so your choice as to leaving them as is, there certainly was nothing like that originally.

I also seem to have an interesting approach to the sill area at the bottom of the wing on each side.

In all fairness I’m really pleased with the overall condition given the lack of bodywork over the years. One of the best bodges I’ve come across :) :)

As advised :) I have opened a can of worms. My priority is to keep the car on the road and I want it back on the road for April. However, the sills are a mish mash of pop rivets, welds etc. The car is solid, good door gaps, solid inner sills so I am going to pick up a pair of sills at the parts show in Feb to fit onto the car. This should allow me to line up the front wings and sort out the poor fitting existing sills. Meanwhile I will repair the inner wings and start work on the rust on the outer wings etc.

My priority (the engine) will remain in the car for the time being until I sort out the wings and front panels, all good fun.

Will also pick up a new screen and seal from Moss at said show.

Thanks Peter, I was looking at these on Rimmers/Moss, BMH every time for me on sills. Fair price as well. Thanks

Just chasing thoughts on windscreens, has anyone had any experience with any of these and can recommend.

Thanks

If I was in your position I’d consider a heated screen option.
I think there are various suppliers but probably one manufacturer

I think TR Enterprises fit quite a few

either way I think I’d keep it clear.

TR Enterprises fitted a heated screen in my TR4 during restoration. Many the day I was grateful for that

We have recently had a new green tinted screen and we are not keen on it. We have always had clear screens previously. I have found the green tinted screen does not come down low enough to exclude /help with the winter sun. I wear reactolight glasses and the green tinted screen is affected by this and I get a pink line below the green band, very disturbing until you get used to it.

a heated windscreen would help with the steaming up in the winter, as per our trip yesterday, but only if you have a hard or Surrey roof up.

All systems go, placed an order with Moss for parts to be picked up at the spares show including a screen and sills so surrey top off, windscreen frame off for welding and a recover of my dash top. I might not be hitting my target of April at this rate :(

Aiming to weld up the rivet holes and repair the inner wing tomorrow evening and Saturday.

Space heater all fuelled up.
