Surrey steel roof.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I hope we are all keeping safe and well.

In my shed I have a steel surrey roof in need of repair, now seems a good time.

The front edge is completely rusted away and has been bodged with filler, also the two rear corners have holes in.

The rest does not seem too bad but it's early days.

My question is are there any repair panels available or is it a matter of lots of bits welded together,

it's quite a complex compound curve at the front and i'm not sure my skills are up to it.

The GT6 has a similar shape so perhaps a panel has been made for that.

Anyway I would be grateful for any help

Many Thanks

John

Hi John,

I don't think there are any repair sections available.

Firstly remove all the rust. See how bad it is and where metal is needed.

TRy and make biggish sections to fit it rather than lots of tiny bits.   Get the shape from what is left and only then remove the rotten section.

I   It will be difficult.

I've seen repair sections cut from a GT6 roof and indeed they are close enough when welded in and "dressed" you can't tell...and yes an occasional GT6 can still be found rusting away unloved  (normally other problems have killed it).

PS: Roger nice of you to admit it, just what Suzanne said

That sounds like a pretty usual steel roof, they were never very well sealed on the return lips and water got in very easily. Ive had to repair quite a few like that, as stated not easy but all do able with care,

Stuart.
