New to TR world

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have finally taken the plunge that I promised myself many years ago no and bought a TR6 that needs a full restoration as it not run since 94!!

Would  really appreciate your inputs on my quest and also helpful tips and guides as to where to buy body panels.
I know that I will probably need a bonnet and by the look of it two doors/skins.

I will also need the engine to be overhauled and gearbox to be looked at too as it hasn’t changed gears in nearly 26 years.
I am based in Lincoln

Im looking forward to the challenges ahead and will no doubt keep me busy and frustrated at the same time.

I look forward to many a visit to this forum and hopefully many good answers.
cheers

Welcome Brian.

I'm sure you will enjoy your TR6, both the restoration journey and the driving experience when it's finished.

Have you been able to get your car home during lockdown? If so, you will find most suppliers are still able to process and deliver parts orders. No excuse to just sit and look at it then!

What ever you need to ask during restoration, you will find a friendly and knowledgeable community here that's happy to help.

Hi Brian

Welcome to the forum.

I was in the same position as you about 3 years ago and as said you will find this forum full of useful info from folk who have a collective knowledge of 1000's of years!

Most parts are available but as I've found out you are better reconditioning as much as you can, make your own or track down old and refurb. I take it you can weld? as there's bound to be loads to do in that department.

Anyway if you want any pointers as to who to use for parts pm me but as a start Conrad is good for OEM parts.

Best of luck and enjoy.

Andy

Brian,

Welcome to the Club and the Forum. I'm a Lincs TR Group member and, as Neil has mentioned above, we will welcome you to our local meetings when we can all go out and circulate again and will be happy to help with any useful information.

Is the car a UK or USA model? CP/CR or CC/CF? Will it be a full body off restoration?

I'm currently doing a full body off restoration of my TR5 and happy to give suggestions of who to use (and who not to use!) in the area. Send me a PM if you want any names.

Brian - in case you don't appreciate what a "PM" is as mentioned in Dave's post shown above and also in Andy's ( Pod One) post, its a personal and private message which goes straight into your own forum mailbox - you can find this in the top right hand corner of the screen in the form of an envelope icon - if there are unread messages in it, there should be a red marker showing this - just click on it and  you will be in your own little private world - you can then respond privately as well with others and exchange, for instance, contact details which are generally not a good idea to put on the open forums.

You can also set up your mailbox to automatically email you if you receive a response which I personally find very helpful as it is very easy to miss the little red marker alongside the envelope icon, advising that you have an unread message.

Hope this helps

Cheers Rich

Welcome to the forum. Have you joined the club yet? If not, then it will be the best source of advice, help and friendship you can get in the TR world. https://www.tr-registershop.co.uk/membership-11-c.asp

Please also take a look at Social Scene and one of the threads pinned to the top about a restoration business near you. Some members have had some poor experience from them, whilst other have fared better but you had better be aware as they are still trading under every changing names. Fortunately we do have some great suppliers and TR specialists to support us. In addition to Rimmers already mentioned, TRGB and TR Enterprises are very useful sources of new and used parts and some great advise. Neither are that far away from you. However, the best source of advise is your local group of the club.

Mick
