Hi folks,

the other night I heard a viewer on the Beeb commenting that the word lockdown is used for prisoners in prison cells.

The correct expression should be quarantine

As I am an OAP I'm not sure I want to be linked with our friends in clink.  Or do the Gov't know something more about what is going on.

I have not, personally, heard Government officials use the term ‘lockdown’ ....  usually ‘self-isolation’ or ‘stay at home’ . Lockdown appears to have been reserved for news agencies, political commentators and various media sites who like a dramatic-effect and headline.

An even better description of the reality is to stop socialising i.e. stop attending events and gatherings with groups of people including supermarkets. Don't stop going out to see neighbours and family, that is a prison.

The govt's aim appears to be 70% of the population infected and recvoered by 4 months after isolating the >70s.  That means theresa high probability of meeting an infected family member or friend in that period. To me, isolation means keeping away from anyone and everyone, especially as they can be shedding huge amounts of virus without any symptoms. Peter
