Don't get too excited.....but China are now manufacturing Mk2 Escorts bodyshells. I have had a look on Revington's site and an equivalent TR shell is in the region of £40k.

In contrast these new Escort shells are a snip at just £6k! Turn it into a fairly cheap race car as below or if you know anyone who's got a rotten RS2000 going for a song?

40k!!!!!!! :oHaving a laugh at that price I honestly can't see where they get a lot of their prices from.

The escort shell is probably harder to make at 6K and IIRC a mini shell is around 6k and a MGB 8K. The escort shells are already been passed of as genuine cars with the VIN been cut out of scrap cars buyer beware!

Wouldn’t be at all surprised, I’m sure every TRick in the book has been pulled. However, if you are doing a genuine reshell is it not legit to use the existing VIN provided it is declared as a new body? After all not many TR’s have the panels they left the factory with.

There will be a lot of Escort log books being sold I should think which is less agreeable perhaps.

Unless you have taken ownership of one within 3 days of last contact I think you can sleep-easy.

There's a chap lives across the road from owns a very nice MK2 Escort, I seem to remember him telling me new shells are available from someone in Ireland. Sorry, don't have any more info than that.

Richard.

You are correct Richard. Currently sold by Higgins Car Dismantlers of Arvagh, N Ireland.

They are listed at £7000 on their website now but come complete with bonnet, boot and doors so pretty good value really if you wanted to build an authentic classic rally Escort, perhaps complete with a Millington Diamond engine?! ( just about fit between the inner wings of a TR4 I should think!)

The Chinese apparently had issues with door shuts/gaps etc on the first batch but have since ironed these problems out I believe.

My first car was a mk2 Escort- awful car lost track of the times i ended up facing backwards, badly made car that wasnt even undersealed from the factory you know. I cannot see why anyone likes these cars- a rally Escort is far from a road going car so no comparison really and i can think of many £40k cars far superior to this boxy saloon- give me a Cossie any day for example lol.

I’m with you. A properly rally prepped car is one thing but the standard road cars were dull a best and like many things the passage of time has caused nostalgia to dull the reality. Not really much better than a Marina or Chevette.

Ahh the 2.3 HS chevette
