Could some kind person tell me what the correct paint finish is for the air plenum box on a 1968 TR5. For some reason I thought that is a black crackle ..... Or am I dreaming?

Many thanks,

Tim

You're not dreaming Tim, it is black crinkle finish - here's my old 70 survivor TR6 ('Saffy') - TR5's are the same finish I believe.

Tim,

if it is wrinkle finish you want, I can recommend a rattle can from VHT, it worked perfect for me. I used 1 can for the plenum after I had grit-blasted it for good grip. I used an hot air blower and an IR thermometer for curing with very good result.

I have a spare but it does not have the connection for the idle air valve, so could be early TR5? It is chrome, but probably not original. Was this a period option maybe?

TR5 original plenums didnt have the pipe for the idle valve as it wasnt fitted to them, they werent chromed original though I have seen a few done like it.

That's what I wanted to hear ref the finish, because I had already done it and then doubted myself!!

This is the correct plenum for the 5, isn't it Stuart?

Thanks all,

Tim

no that is a TR6 plenum I am afraid , the tr5 only has 1 breather outlet as Stuart says .i can send you pictures of both an un modified non breather and a later modified version if you would like . You also have the TR6 type of air bleed in your inlet manifolds as well .
