If you can wrangle a length of cord or wire down and under the bottom (layshaft) gears and try lifting the gear cluster. Try at each end. If there is any up and down movement the shaft and bearings ha

Hi all, 15 years after buying my TR6, a spitfire, an abandoned TR6 project and many Land Rovers later, I'm finally back in a TR! A 1956 TR3 with a rather flashy colour scheme. A huge thanks

I just need to paint the chassis where its sitting on the lift pads but other than that...  Mission accomplished!

Stuart.

Thanks. I'll pull out the dwell meter

Quick blast to the beach and back. One small backfire but it's running great otherwise. Hardly running on at all on shutdown now.

Which beach? I'm curious. Marseilles? Britanny? Where, where?

Le touquet!

I've had this photo in my living room for years. The channel air bridge used to link Lydd in Kent to le touquet. Just need to buy a plane now!

Ah, that's better! Now I know. What an extraordinary painting — I see it's signed (Gaby). Quite beautiful, would appear to be based on a photograph? Too detailed not to be. A TR2. And a long line of vehicles below the wing in the far distance. That's just what I need. Can I have one, please?

Thanks everyone

Really hot and close today. Car still suffering from a bit of rev hang but very little running on when I switch off.

I'll loosen the throttle linkage a bit, hopefully it will be an easy fix

Quick drive to the next town followed by a pizza run.

Took the hood for a test spin. I don't know how you cope with a hardtop. I'm not claustrophobic but it is cramped with the hood on!

I like the passenger a lot.. Does he help with the Pizza and map reading.

Richard & B.

He's more pizza eater than navigator, that's for sure!

Drove to work in light rain with roof on but still no side screens. 20min later the heavens opened up and I rushed home to swap cars as the wind was blowing rain sideways into the car. Get back to the office and the sun starts shining! I can't win :(

Went for a gorgeous drive to le crotoy today (baie de Somme). Almost 100mi total. The car performed flawlessly, great oil pressure and temperature gauge never went past the mid point. Didn't need to switch on the electric fan either.

Only concern is that oil is seeping into the passenger footwell from under the gearbox tunnel. Box or engine?

Smell the oil - you will soon identify the source, presuming you use HP in the ‘box. HP 90 has a sulphurous odour

Pretty sure it's from the engine. Spent many an hour messing around with ep90 dripping out of land rovers!

There's more on the back of the block, where it meets the head.

I'll clean it up and keep an eye on it.

I've pretty much finished the rewiring.

Bob's led conversion is the business!

Fan and headlights are now ran through relays and a separate fusebox. I've got a spare relay for if I ever fit driving lamps.

They're electric fan has a manual override as well as the original thermostatic switch. The warning lamp on the dash lights up when either of them are switching the fan on.

I learnt a huge amount and am very pleased with my handiwork!

Thanks to all for the advice and moral support ;)

Well done and it is very satisfying.

A few years ago and knowing absolutely nothing about car electrickery, I decided to to do something similar and install two covered fuse boxes in place of one open fuse box into which a large number of additional electrical items were plumbed. With the help of people here I went from this:

to this:

Since then, (with a bit more help here) I have rewired and rerouted the wiring for the overdrive and installed a O/D "on' lamp, installed a lever indicator arm, installed a double 12v output socket and a 12v input socket for the battery conditioner to plug into. And of course Bob's LEDs. Very satisfying!

Gonzo!

Wow, haven't posted for almost a month. The tr3 is pretty much my daily driver but I've been working 6 days a week and often 12 hours a day so haven't done anything apart from drive it.

The throttle sometimes sticks open at full bore. It's happened a few times on 4th. Accelerate hard and lift off the gas but it keeps pulling. Drop into neutral and the revs are bouncing off the redline. Killing the ignition then tapping the throttle before jump starting in 4th mostly cures it.

The linkage doesn't seem to be fouling anything and it happened once on a 100mi run last Sunday and twice on a 80mi drive today.

Do you think it's inside the carb? Could something be stopping a piston from dropping back down?

Got some lithium grease for my new old wanner gun. Will grease the trunnions before a 500mi trip next week.
