John McCormack
I have been looking to buy door tread plates (Moss 900429 and 900428) for my long door TR2 (TS3732O). Are these original or are they an after market item?
BlueTR3A-5EKT
900428/900429 are original capping pieces to cover the outer to inner sill to floor vertical welded joint/seam. Factory ones were made of anodised aluminium (like the wing stone guards) Peter W
foster461
They are not really tread plates although for the cars with outer sills there were/are aftermarket tread plates that sit on top of the outer sill. The trim plates supplied today are shiny like chrome and are very nice. They hook over the lip formed by the floor/inner sill/outer-sill (on the short door cars) and if you have replaced the floors and outer sills they cover up a multitude of welding/grinding sins. stuart
You may struggle to fit them if as per usual someone hasnt trimmed off the lips when theyve replaced sills or floors or theyve left ugly welds on the top of the lip it fits over, sometimes the bottom edge needs trimming to allow them to sit down far enough too. Always entertaining trying to drill and fit the fixing screws that are only just above the floor level. Stuart.
