After quality rubber seals for a 5

Recommended Posts

Any recommendations please for where to get 'quality' rubber seals following a bare metal paint job on my 5?

Looking to get seals for both glass screens inc frames to body, boot, under the bonnet and furflex for the door. Have I missed any?

I often hear fellow TR enthusiasts say be careful where you get parts from as there's a lot of  rubbish out there. Being relatively new to the TR scene I lack the knowledge of who those suspects are to avoid.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Hamish, not 100% on how much I need if sold by the metre but will have a look at the links you kindly posted.

Hello Stuart

Do you know which one I will need for the 5? This is for the furflex seal around the doors and surrey top. Believe I may need seven metres plus clips?

Woollies have two types, the part numbers are 235 and 264 on the links below. The lady I spoke with said she was unable to state which one I needed other than to say if I got the wrong one, then when fitted will have trouble shutting the door. Looking at the subtle differences re the area covered by the felt I would suspect I needed the part 264 but will bow to your knowledge and experience.

Part 235 https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/product/search?term=235

part 264 https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/product/search?term=264

Thanks in advance.

Mike

It does depend on how tight your doors fit 264 is one that self grips and doesnt need clips and if your doors are a tight fit you may find youll struggle to get the doors to close nicely, 235 needs clips to fit but has a thinner rubber tube so will cope with tighter fitting doors. Personally I have had more success with 265a as apart from being rubber faced rather than furry its much closer to the original shape of the seals they came with. Then I use the Moss seals for the sides of the Surrey and each side of the steel roof.650310/650312.

Thanks Stuart

Would I be correct on saying I need a total of  7 metres of either seal? It's just a figure that I heard mentioned in the past.

A great help as always.

Yes thats the right length in total to go from top of screen right round and over the Surrey to top of screen.

Hi Mike,  when I had my TR5 I often found the original seals around the doors and screen were not quite as draught proof as they should be.  When building my GTR4a i used door seals from an Audi A4  which are almost identical in section but slightly thicker. They work a treat but i suppose it depends on how original you want the car to be.

Hi again Mike,  don't forget that  you only need fursflex over the roof part of the back light.  The combined rubber and fursflex only goes from the top of the screen rail to the top of the vertical part of the back light. sorry if I'm stating the obvious but you need to measure up accordingly.
