rogerowen
Just as a matter of interest - I have an issue with my boat's inboard engine a 1993 Yanmar single cylinder diesel that has red looking antifreeze in its heat exchanger (which leaks). Using an endoscope I can see a right mess in there!

iain
Evans is not Red. It’s Green. Red sounds like a Oat antifreeze. What have you started Ben? We users should just ignore the doubting Thomas’s :-) I’ll get my coat now as well. Iain

SpitFireSIX
Yes really. I do have a galvanically isolated aluminum radiator though. I have had no problems with it in a CP. Anyone had negative effects? Cheers, Iain. PS. I do not have an intentional vented system. Why would you? Edited January 24, 2020 by SpitFireSIX PS
SpitFireSIX
Hi, Looks like 4Life is the coolant to use? As its IAT 100%? Cheers, Iain.

SpitFireSIX
Hi Mick, I tried it but my car is injection & not the carbs it was designed for. It ionised the fuel too much and then collected around my N52 magnets blocking the fuel line. Luckily I had mine attached to a nylon line & it was easy to remove from the fuel tank. So not recommended for EFI + N52 magnets. Might work with carbs. Half a teaspoon of potassium permanganate is an excellent oxidiser that slows the flame front & a better choice IMHO for low octane fuel. Cheers, Iain.
Motorsport Mickey
Thanks for that Iain, somehow guessed you might have tried it. Mick Richards
Andy303
Reading this thread got me to wondering what I have been using all these years. On this side of the pond the bad old green stuff is still widely available at any parts store and most big box stores. I went out in the garage and took a photo of the label. A no brainer? I had thought so...
John Morrison
Just so Andy, and over here, use the Blue, don't touch the Orange and change every couple of years, simples! John.
graeme
Maybe Prestone US and Prestone europe are different species. I have been using Prestone (5 year life) in my TR4A for 10 years since arriving in Canada when I was not able to find the 'Blue stuff.' The coolant is fine and replaced every 5 years. Looking at the Prestone website, they produce other specific coolants, one for European and one for Asian cars both based on OAT technology. I believe that the Prestone Yellow stuff in North America is Glycol based. https://prestone.com/products?detail=AF2000 Says it meets these two standards ASTM D3306 Standard Specification for Glycol Base Engine Coolant for Automobile and Light-Duty Service ASTM D4985 Standard Specification for Low Silicate Ethylene Glycol Base Engine Coolant for Heavy Duty Engines Cheers Graeme Edited January 25, 2020 by graeme
Andy Moltu
The OAT & non-OAT don't mix well causing gelling. OAT are usually Red and the traditional non-OAT blue. Yellow and green? Difficult to be sure so would advise against use unless absolutely certain of type.
