Drewmotty hasĀ good point. Fifty years ago, didnā€™tĀ we all / most of us want to modify our cars to look something like this. I recall that Ā£sd was the problem....

Now weĀ have become purists and even the poor guy who nowadays paints hisĀ car in a non-original colour is shot down in flames from a greatĀ height!

Looks a bit of fun... Cannot begrudge them that (Do none of you remember the terrible things we used to do to ours back in the day (or, was that only Apple County?)

Ā

However, I donā€™t understand starting with what appears such a good original example?Ā

Can anyone remember a sidescreen car, I think from the states,

John.

That is exactly what Jaguar did with the XK140, it had a strip in the middle of the bonnet to widen the XK120 bonnet at minimal cost.

They were trendsetters then, mid 1950-ies.:)

Isn't that what Alex Issigonis did to the Morris Minor, cut it down the middle, then add 4" to the width? Apparently it transformed the car. Compare it to the A30/35 for example. All been done before.

Yes he did Mick,Ā  Ā Of course the bumbers also had to made wider but they had already produced 1000,s of them so they just had a chrome plated cover made to conceal the joint.Ā  As for any Americans widening a TR3 by cutting it down the middle I think it would have been better and cheaperĀ  if they just cut down the calories instead!Ā

OrĀ am I now being non PC by saying that?Ā

...............the real tragedy...it seems to have genuine Stanpart aeroscreens!:o

If that were the case, it would be very much 'pearls before swine'.

But they look like perfectly bog ordinaire Aero Screens or BrooklandsĀ  screens

to me Iain..

Does this car now have a blower or Webers?

Apart from the wheels, it's little more than paint that seperates it from an awful(!)

number of cars in the Register.
