Electric problems

Recommended Posts

I have a small problem, when I turn my lights on the battery indicator drops and the temp gauge goes into the red.

I have checked the alternator output at 2540 rpm and it shows 14.51 volts.

 Every thing else works fine.

Any ideas please.

Perhaps an earthing fault, somehow the lights are earthing through the temp gauge ?

I just had a look at the wiring diagram on the internet -   arrrggghhhhh.

I would go for an earth fault.  The lights take a fair bit of current. If there is a resistance in its power supply then it will drag its volts down.

If the temp gauge is on the same supply then it will also lose volts.
