TR4 radiator Cap depth.

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, Happy New Year,

Can anyone advise on a source of a new 'deeper' rad cap to fit the swan neck radiator. just bought cap 'that fits tr4' and its good 10mm too shallow so the lower seal doesn't reach the rad filler face.

Checked Rimmer Bros and they quote a 3/4" and 1", but not sure even 1 inch will be deep enough to seal?

Advice , guidance really appreciated..

Nigel.

Thanks Guys,

Was investigating a water loss issue and realised the existing cap just isn't deep enough to even seal the rad.!

Have ordered the Moss part..

Hi Marco.

Ive ordered the 1" deep, measured from the bottom of the cap.

I believe now my car as bought, has an older rad fitted, as the car is a 64 and should have a conventional rad as its after CT9553? When the Rad was changed.

Hi Nigel,

this is why it's always the best to measure yourself on your car

AND measure what you get delivered, I ordered 3/4" (22 mm) and got 18 mm,

what ever car this has been made for.

Ciao, Marco

Hi Nigel,

The TR4 was fitted with two types of cap.

AC  RC4  4lbs, the part catalogues state this cap had an overall height of 0.96”

AC  RC1  7lbs, the parts catalogues state this cap had an overall height of 1.2”

The fitting information on the side of the box appears to round up the dimensions.

Regards, Richard
