Gearbox breath hole, strange

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm in the way for rebuilding a 4synch gearbox from a TR6 69 (Lucas PI, no overdrive).

I have found a curious hole on the back/noze of the box (before the transmission shaft).

This hole is below the casting.

I presume, a little amount of gear oil will travel to the end small balls bearing. (the reason why there was a spie seal here at the end of the box)

Probably, this hole is a breather or for condensation.

But, the breathe hole must be on the top cover assy (in front, a 2mm hole ?) ? Am i right

here is my "suspect hole":

Best regards from France.

Thank, but do you think this hole is necessary ? My new balls bearing (the one on the end of the extension) is a sealed/water resist one. The old were "opened" like a normal BBearing.

And strange, my new bbearing (the sealed one) have a CLIP around it (like the big ones on the main shaft and secondary shaft)

In add, It seem i haven't got the breathe hole on my top cover :-(
