Phil H 4
Fine dry morning so took the opportunity to go for a spin, exhaust smoke my previous post on October seems to have evaporated ! as suggested by PodOne it was probably condensation after the car sitting for a while. Interesting drive today particularly on roundabouts as unknown to me at the time when indicating, repeaters flashed both sides.( Front and Rear ) The car being a 72 Uk model didn't until today have hazard warning lights. A new electronic flasher unit was fitted 1500 miles ago when the lights were upgraded to led. Is it likely the issue is the flasher unit or more involved. If so any recommendations of a good auto electrician in south Bucks would be appreciated. As always many thanks to the generosity of the forum assisting those of us that wish they had the technical know how somewhere equal to the love of their cars. Phil. Mike C
First thing I'd do is check all of the flasher earths.
RogerH
Hi Phil, if you really need an auto leccy then these people are very good. https://www.yell.com/biz/dbj-auto-electrical-uxbridge-310525/ I've had starters and wiper motors sorted by them. Phil H 4
Mike, Roger. All looks secure but will give another check and if not I’ll pop in on the people Roger suggest as they are very local. Thank you. Phil.
Mk2 Chopper
There is a single wire from the relay going to the column indicator switch, depending on which way you switch it, the power runs to earth through that sides bulbs, so I'd investigate the switch first if it's able to turn all the bulbs on together. RobH
If its wired as per the earlier cars with the dashboard tell-tale across the switch, it could be that bulb is is shorted out Phil. That would connect both L and R indicator circuits together. You could try taking out the dashboard bulb to see if the fault clears.
Phil H 4
Having had a good route around I may have found the issue ! I think a complete check / overhaul is in order will be down to Auto electrics Uxbridge next week. Just as well it was only the indicators, looks as if it could have been far more serious. RogerH
Hi Phil, that is quite impressive. You wait till the big brown wire in the loom behind the dash goes 'pop' Roger
Phil H 4
Mike, right first time. I replaced all the bullet earth connectors and sleeves in and around the area and hey presto normal business resumed - flashers working correctly. Re the melted wiring, nipped down to DPJ auto electricians today for a chat, thanks for the intro Roger they think it may be the overdrive wiring...car booked in on Wednesday so we'll see. Regardless what it is I consider it a lucky escape. Phil
RogerH
Hi Phil, yellow or yellow/+other colour is over drive. Could be interesting what they find. Roger

Phil H 4
Mattnz, I hope in the future not to have to use Lucas service part 530433 Replacemnet wiring Harness Smoke. DBJ autos electrics in Uxbridge ( Great Traditional firm that specialise in old cars and boats ) have replaced the defective overdrive wiring, tested and incorporated a fuse adjacent to the relay should there be further issues it will save a lot of work re-routing the wiring again. If anyone wants electrical works I can highly recommend them, great work and very reasonable priced. Phil
