D.R.Morgan
I appreciate that I cannot legally fit LED headlamp bulbs to my TR4A in GB, but does anyone know whether I can legally use them in spot/driving lamps? David
RogerH
Why can't you fit LED bulbs to your lamps. The TRR club insurance scheme providers have clearly stated that they are happy and it will not invalidate the insurance. The MOT testers are happy to pass them. As long as they point the right way and are bright enough then all is OK. Roger
harrytr5
Well our MOT testers like them and do not fail. Our insurance likes them and will not invalidate a claim. So long as the beam pattern is the same go for it. Regards Harry TR5 Nutter
Andy Moltu
Our cars effectively pre-date the regulations so as far as the law is concerned the type of bulb doesn’t apply. I don’t know if the wattage figures apply but 55w filament bulb puts out lots less light than LEDs or HIDs. They have to beset not to dazzle oncoming traffic but that’s about it. Lebro
The current regulations allow fitting of LED bulbs to anywhere on our cars except headlamps & indicators. For these two items only the regs state a minimum wattage, which, as LED bulbs are so much more efficient, they can not meet the requirement. However, if one reads the spirit of the regulations, it clearly meant "effective" wattage, & LED lamps certainly meet or exceed that requirement. I have LED bulbs everywhere on my TR3 & I do not worry about it. Bob.
Allan Westbury
LEDs seem to be well accepted. HIDs are not. Have changed my headlight HIDs to LEDs. Not quite as good but still many times better than Halogens. Allan
