Algarve Classic Festival

Recommended Posts

Hi all, on holiday in Portugal, staying near Lagos, and yesterday, Sunday the 3rd went to the Autodromo Circuit for the last day of the weekends Historic Classic Car Festival. the tickets included Paddock as well. I hadn't really looked at the format in any great detail, but wow what a day, and what machinery, from Mk1 Escorts, Cortina's and Minis all the way up to GT 40's, McClarens, Porsche, AC's, Ferrari's. Astons, Jaguars, Frazer Nash, and low and behold in the GT & Sports Car Cup, pre 1966 2 hour race, a TR4.

What a surprise, and what a race he had, coming 8th overall, and winning his GT3 class, against Austin Healeys, E Types, we were lucky enough to talk to the guy Alan Ross Jones, a really nice guy, I was surprised (maybe I shouldn't have been) at how standard the engine bay was, the car develops 190BHP at 7k revs. His second driver is normally his son Dan, but this day it was Mark Hales.

Apparently the car has never been road registered, it went to the States from manufacture, competed out there, before returning to the UK, I#m not sure when.

The weather could have been better, a lot a shower dodging, but it made for interesting racing, going from dry to wet, and back to dry.

As well as the pics I have attached the top 12 of the race, and the GT3 results. Hope the vid loads ok?

I thought it was worthwhile sharing

Cheers

Thanks for sharing, Ian. Those infernal Webers again! Always a pleasant sight to my eyes, and 190 BHP is impressive if not a record for that engine. Wonder whose hardtop that is, and why it's RHD if it went to the 'States when new.

I was in the Algarve in 1970 when my dad took us on a month long beach holiday. Unforgettable, and regrettably unrepeatable today ( from reports ).

Cheers,

Tom

as with all masters races the cars have to have FIA papers.

seems like a good meeting.

Alan has been all over europe and south africa with this car and always gives a good show in results.
