The 'D' is also reverse rotation. Don't ask me how I know, having just sold one at the Stoke Prior rally. One of the recently departed Keith Shakespeare's rallys'. I've also in my shed an Amanco 'Hired man' & a Lister A, both single cylinder, twin flywheel. Lister's 900cc, amanco slightly bigger, not sure by how much

When I was at school we made a go kart with a similar drive clutch mechanism.  The engine (an old BSA 350 motorcycle engine) was mounted on a swivel so that pressing the 'clutch' rocked the engine and tightened the belt which made it go.  It was deemed too dangerous for us to use in anger.

With a 350 cc M/C engine I'm not surprised :o
