Hamish
Thanks to a fellow Tr’er courier service I have some of my dads hillclimbing programmes results records etc from 1957/8 this included a triumph accessory advert for tr2/3 in the Westbrook hay programme. And the unchanged layout of Shelsley and dads 1958 competition licence it appears that dad was racing Tony Marsh who was hill climb champ of considerable note. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Marsh_(racing_driver) i May post more if there is interest. Dave McDonald
Hamish, The old programmes are great. Is that your Dad in what I guess is a 500cc F3 car? Do you know what make the car was and what engine it had? The inlet trumpets on those SUs in the advert look very long. Dave McD

Dave McD They go into an airbox visible on the inner wing which is fed from a scoop on the bonnet. You can read more about it in the next (317) edition of TRaction. Hamish
Hi Dave yes it’s dad and his car. It’s a mk6(?) cooper JAP twin. 1220cc supercharged (Wade) running on methanol. Norton motorbike gearbox ( they used to last about 4 runs apparently) and were £5 each - a lot in 1957.

Dave McDonald
Fascinating detail on the Shelsley Walsh map reproduced from an Autocar copyright in the programme. I've never been to Shelsley Walsh, so am unfamiliar with the layout myself. 1. Ladies Cloaks and Gents Cloaks approx. 40% up the hill on the right. One can only speculate what those facilities might comprise in 1957/58 based on my own experience of the rudimentary provisions at Croft and Cadwell Park 10 years later in 1967/68. 2. BBC Huts at both bottom and top of hill together with a Press tent near top. Was it televised or Radio do you think? Would Murray Walker have been involved? 3. Cinema Vans on the right approx. 75% up the hill. Would that have been something like Pathe News for screening at the pictures between the B Movie, Pearl and Dean and the main feature film? High exposure indeed. 4. The Members Enclosure approx. 70% up the hill. Together with the refreshment tent approx. 80% up hill on right, I think any visitor who had come in the Spectators entrance at the foot of the hill and trudged that far up deserved a rest and a "refreshment." Keep it coming Hamish. Dave McD

Hamish, A 1220 cc s/c engine in that car must have been like a rocket ship at that time. No wonder the Norton bike G/box struggled to cope with the power. I note your Dad was only 20 years old when he was doing this. Amazingly young to have such a car. Dave McD
Hamish
Dave he was about 27 I think. Born 1931. Raced the cooper 57 - 59 I think. Made racing films ‘60’s and 70’s. Raced a 4.3 Alvis 70’s to 90’s. Always a car man to the core. Died last December. Soooo many questions unanswered now.
Dave McDonald
Hamish, Apologies for opening up that wound. I'd read the DOB on his licence as 1937 not 1931. Dave McD

With many like minded folk of his era famous and less so. i hope to share more from this period of racing. Halcyon but dangerous days of motor sport.
