Bevan Posted September 19, 2019 Report Share Posted September 19, 2019 My 1975 tr6pi was running fine then I left it in garage for a week then when I started it up again was ok bit got approx a mile from home engine ran rough then died and would not restart, after approx 10 mins finally fired but would not idle and needed judicious use of enrichment device to get home. On getting he restarted then after 30 secs again died. Changed fuel filter no obvious blockage or contamination in original filter, and fuel was free running and clean from tank exit. Same prob again on start, short run then died. Car has only covered 10,000 miles from new and has had unleaded exhaust seats fitted, and all injection components refurbished by Neil Ferguson who made a great job of them. Plugs looks petrol wet after running where previously they were the perfect colour, all six of them. Fuel used Shell and have been using correct dosage of Millers VPSE additive. Some of us have weeks or months trying to figure out why something is not working the way it should. I think the usual advice for the PI cars is to pull injectors and make sure you have a nice spray of fuel when you crank the engine. If they all look ok then go after the ignition (coil etc depending on what you have) and start replacing components one by one. It could be as simple as a loose connection. Have just checked for spark at plugs and it seems good. Pulling injectors into container and turning engine over and no petrol emitted from injectors, carefully opening poppet valve with finger nails and there is pressure there and small amount of fuel omitted. Everything standard on car still running points ignition and have tried replacing coil, condenser, rotar arm, Lucas pump. Open Tank Cap and leave open you could have a Vacuum problem in the Tank but your problem seems to be Fuel Delivery from Pump and as you say a Blockage somewhere. "All injection components refurbished by Neil Ferguson" Including original pump? Is it still capable of producing >100psi? Consider a pressure gauge in the fuel line, either a direct one in the engine bay, or an electric on the dash. And why "VPSE"? Millers say, "An all-in-one fuel treatment providing ethanol protection, lead replacement and octane improvement endorsed by the FBHVC." Your Pi system has been "refurbished" so if with ethanol resistant rubber, no need for the first, you have unleaded valve seats, so no need for the second, and Shell V-power is 99 octane, so unless you have an enormous CR, no need for the third.
