Helping out Fellow Tr'ers.

Recommended Posts

Recent thread about a TR stuck in france for want of a U/J prompted this

'Thinking out loud' post.

I like I'm sure many other TR'ers, have a couple of New Hardy Spicer U/Js on the shelf,

and would gladly get one on a courier to a stranded Tr owner, certainly in Europe, but what would be the method to

expedite such a delivery, sure it wouldn't be cheap, but neither is losing accomodation, and needing to rebuy somewhere else?

Could this be done in say a guaranteed 48hrs? and if so who to go to?

John.

Hi John,

Alec P was the master of overseas posting.

However when you have service from Moss and Rimmers - and I'm sure many of the other suppliers - like this then is there a need for us humble folk to  panic.

I'm sure the Royal Snail could do this for us. Also UPS etc.

I offered to provide a Dutch TR specialist contact list to the Register one or 2 years ago. I think you can get most service parts here in The Netherlands next day if needed, and the same probably applies for Germany.

More recent, a member who stranded with low oil pressure on his return to the UK was helped by one of these suppliers.

I got a response it was planned to do, but probably due to a lack of resources at the Register not completed yet.

Offer still stands off course, and I’m sure the German, French and Spanish residents on this forum are willing to do the same.

Regards,

Waldi

Hi,

I was the chap ‘stuck in France’ and can confirm that both Rimmers & Moss used Fed Ex.The chap we spoke to at Moss, when asked what the chances were of a next day delivery to South of France said “it’s a job for Fed Ex and no else”.

Just to add, a pair of UJ’s delivered overnight (in under 20 hours) to Montpelier was £58 all in. I thought that was very reasonable. Rimmers updated ones were slightly more but still nothing compared to the cost of losing hotel booking and additional costs of staying more nights in Montpelier.

Once we got to our next stop the car wasn’t running great and after further inspection, I noticed the HT lead was destroyed at one end. Our immediate thought was ‘Moss / Rimmers overnight to hotel for tomorrow.. sorted’ ...

What I actually did was cut back the lead a  bit and re-crimp the end and it’s running fine now. However, with such a great service on offer, it takes a considerable amount of stress away from travelling abroad in a classic.

Glad to hear the problem was sorted and the TR community pulled together to help.

this builds my confidence to take my TR6 down to Denia next year, maybe !

It's this sort of useful advice which should be included within the updated European Directory, in addition to all the lists of garages, suppliers etc.

It's more than 11 years since I handed over the work I had completed in compiling a directory for Italy, which contained some 60 entries - the original Directory had less than 10.

I hope that whoever is compiling the whole Directory gets the entries for each country checked to ensure that they remain valid and contain up-to-date information on such important items as email, website, phone numbers etc.

I'd like to understand why Moss Motors in France was no help.

Well, initially they simply didn’t answer the phone and we called about 15 times over two days. They have never replied to our email.

At 2pm the following day we eventually got through and quoted them their part number that was shown as ‘in stock’ on the French website. They then said it would be 3 to 7 days as it is to come from UK ....

Next call for us at 2:30 pm was to Moss UK.... it arrived 10am next day direct to garage ...

So the lesson here seems to go straight to the UK, either Moss or Rimmers,  who both got the parts to the south of France overnight?

I think thats pretty good, and deserves credit.

Yes, I’ve been quick of late to moan about these suppliers on Facebook Triumph groups as some of the parts I’ve received for my cars have been pretty poor quality.

I will post a positive post on these group pages today as it was an indeed excellent service for the Triumph community.
