Tim D.
Hi All, Replacing my wobbly trailing arm studs. Helicoil UNF (have the Patton jig) or drill and tap for UNC? Cheers Tim
Steves_TR6
Hi Tim there are varying thoughts on the right way to go...... i went with the CDD kit, mainly as it included rental of the taps and jigs, it was very easy to install steve
SeanF
Tim, If you search, this has been the subject of very heated debates on here in the past. I helicoiled mine for UNF. Just be careful not to overtighten even with helicoils. Ask me how I know.
Waldi
As said above, opinions differ. I would prefer UNC for the alloy. Waldi
aardvark
... I don’t think it matters either way as any repairs now should last another 30 to 50 years unless you over tighten them! cheers dave
RogerH
TRiumph had it right using UNF in the Ali Alloy. The torque loading is low and the UNF is less prone to free up with vibration. If you use a helicoil then there is less problem about the stud pulling (unless you over do it) As you apply the torque load the stud pushes the helicoil outwards deeper into the Ali body. I would go UNF every time but the choice is yours. Also consider a spot of studloc as belt and braces. Roger
