Toyota Brake conversion

Recommended Posts

I've got Toyota four pot calipers - not identical to the ones used by Dennis as I use vented discs but I can't imagine they would be different fittings/thread.

Mine are metric M10

If you have the same toyota brakes that i have then this is the pattern, with various manuf. part numbers !

Hi Steve,

did you buy this as brake calipers for the Toyota Landcruiser 90?

Please could you be so kind an measures the outside diameter of the pistons and tell me?

And what is their weigh please (is there a benefit for the not shock absorbed weight of the front axle)?

Thanks in advance, Marco

Hi Marco

yes the calipers were for a petrol landcruiser of about that vintage

they fit straight on apart from the need for a slight trim of the backplate

can’t measure the pistons, or weigh them, as they’re on my car !

Hi Steve,

thanks for that confirmation.

Google tell to Toyota pistons are 45 mm, the Triumph piston is 54 mm.

What disc do you use? The Toyota calipers are good for 22 mm thickness (google).

Ciao, Marco

Back from my garage, the TR disc is only 10 mm!

There would be space for a ventilated disc!

If they are then theyre well worn, just measured a new pair and they are 1/2" thick

Hi Stuart,

thank you very much for watching an telling me, I did not realize, you are right!

The brake pads I realized already, the will not last a long time anymore.

I need both and I did nothing on the calipers since I own the car. A "triple reason" the think about a  change?

Ciao, Marco

Just fit new standard discs and pads then the TUV (and you) will be happy.

Stuart.

Marco: If it performed without any sign of trouble - then replace the discs / pads and keep on driving.

We did some runs on the Anneau du Rhin - racetrack. The brakes performed well - after the pads had settled. You could smell them cooking after the first 30min run - from then on it was fine.

Hi Stuart and Johannes,

after only some minutes with Google (edit: for part number and piston size) I probably be with you.

Perhaps anyway someone could be so kind and email me a scan of the article?

Ciao. Marco

Re the very good  Tr 5 -  6 Toyota brake conversion article on page 32  issue 315 of TR Action by Dennis Hobbs-

Re the requirement to make new metal pipes between the hose and caliper - does the Toyota caliper have an imperial fitting or metric ?

MARK

Hi Mark, what about you?
