David Duffy
Does anyone please have a current paint reference number to match the 1954/5 SIGNAL RED of TR2s? (I plan to use 2 pack in the restoration)
RobTR3
Your best bet to get a good colour match is to get the paint scanned. Take the car or a panel to a Motor Factors who will scan it for you. They will need a flat surface about 6" x 3" to get a good reading (i.e. so the face of the scanner covers it and is not confused by any other colours). Ring the supplier first to see if they have a scanner. In Bill Piggott's book 'Original Triumph Tr2/3/3A, there are several codes listed for signal red for the period you quote, and as he says are probably meaningless to todays auto suppliers. john.r.davies
Red always fades faster and worse than other colours, so if you want new paint to match old, then the original colour code number won't match. Fine if you want a complete respray, in the original colour. John
AndyR100
Sound like you are after paint for a full respray, if so then Signal Red code 32 usually hides under ‘Rover’ colours on the system that most body shops use. As mentioned earlier, colour matching via a scan is also possible - but be careful because the scan may tie it to the closest shade its database knows of - which may still be wrong! ........ TomMull
Here's what I used, which agrees with Andy. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Signal Red If you are trying to match existing paint you can sometimes get a good scan from the inside of the boot lid. Signal red seems to be one of the easy ones. Tom
