nylen
Hi, TR6 PI CR1-CR2911 had a head no 218225, (The same as CP75001-CP77718.) TR6PI CR5001-CR6701 ha a head no 219015. Both had ratio 9.5:1 and BHP 124DIN. So why changed Triumph head type and what is the difference?

During the production life of the straight six engine, BL modified the casting for the block and cyl. head in most cases to stiffen up the block and cut down the warping, twisting, compression loss and cracking in the cylinder head. The later block with the counter bores used a head gasket that gave much better sealing with the use of a difference type of fire ring based upon formula 1 design. The last design of cyi. head gave the best gas flow , so you could argue that if you have a later engine you have the best design! BL was forced into doing these mods because of warranty claims especially from the saloon car side. At that time I worked for the company that produced most of the gaskets for the whole of the UK motor industry! Bruce.
