ChrisR-4A
Hi All, something worth considering when choosing which company to use when insuring your car (Not just the Classic) is how far away from your location your insurance Companies Nearest Approved Repairer is. I have just spent best part of a day taking a friend to collect his repaired car from the recommended repairer which is a 2 hour drive from his home address, turns out they did an excellent job and looked like a good company but not very convenient. Choosing a repairer not recommended can frequently cost you an additional £200 excess, anyone else experienced this? Chris
MikeThomas
Hi Chris Mrs had a prang in icy conditions, then insurer Tesco said I had to take it to one of their approved repairers, this was about an hour away. I bluntly refused saying this is a total inconvenience for me and the Mrs as it's a Friday evening. I told them I was taking it to a well respected (and used by other insurance companies) car repairer which happened to be two miles way. I cited they were not treating their policy holders fairly and put labour rate savings before customer fairness. They failed to counter the point. Got the car repaired and Tesco paid up. Needless to say I never insured with them again. Best wishes, Mike
PaulAnderson
I'm with the TR Register Insurance Scheme with A Plan and was involved in a collision with another car yesterday. Driver and passenger shaken but okay, TR not very well at all. What is the process for finding an appropriate repairer with the register's scheme. I'd like it to go to one of the well known TR specialists. Paul
MikeThomas
Sorry to read about the accident Paul, good to see you and the passenger are ok. If it was me I would ask A Plan who they would and would not be happy for me to approach, other than that speak to the TR Specialists direct and get some quotes and terms of business as I suppose you would in a normal day to day car accident. You won't be the first for this to happen to, therefore I expect others to come on here and offer more help. Good luck. Best wishes, Mike
PaulAnderson
We're okay but still have a bit of the shakes three days later. Not nice to face an oncoming car straddling the double white lines at the top of a rise. Good job I was wearing brown shorts at the time as it was a very hot day.. Have felt a little pressured by the insurance company to make a decision on where to take the TR - they want it out of recovery storage as it costs a lot by the day, so suggested http://www.willowtriumph.com/ for a quote as they are the only specialist in the north of England that I have experience of. The main specialists that I'm aware of may be 4 hours or more travel south which is not ideal for keeping up to date with the work. MikeThomas
Hello Paul Sounds a nasty and not to repeated experience! I've had a quick look at their website 'Willow Triumph' and note they have restored several TR4as and the last one looked excellent. I'm no expert but from what I've seen I would consider them, perhaps a call to them in the first instance might put your mind at rest, send over a few photos of the damage and ask what they think? Also tried a search on reviews and nothing detrimental came up. Good luck Best wishes, Mike
