ricky30dk
Hi Bob, it really feels electrical/magnetic - it's a very even/constant "lumpiness", if that makes any sense. I just spoke to Dan at Revington - a very helpful chap - he suggested the contacts could have some corrosion after three years sitting in the car and a simple clean might sort it out. I will also take a look at the bearings while I'm in there Cheers Richard
ricky30dk
finally resolved this - 1. defective 28A Revington dynamo (intermittent contact somewhere inside) - out of warranty so unable to have it replaced. Fitted new 22A dynamo, thouh this did not cure the charging issue ..... 2. presumably defective voltage regulators (2 of the buggers, one looked new) - tried for weeks to go through problem solving step by step (not helped by intermittently defective dynamo). Forked out for solid state version which took all of 30 seconds to fit and worked immediately - not cheap, but gave me the lacking motivation to complete the project, thus worth every penny! tthomson
I'm glad you managed to fix the problem and thanks for sharing the results. I converted to alternator, and that has been problem free. Though only after the original alternator was replaced. (The rotor coil was burnt out through some mishap by the person rebuilding the car some 15 years ago) Kind regards Tony
