Graham
Following on from my previous post, got the callipers off and on the bench, can't imagine why they were so seized I had to use a 10 ton hydraulic spreader to break the rust weld , fortunately I have a spare pair of rebuilt callipers I'm going to fit for the time being. then at least I will be able to move the car now that the front wheels now turn ! Eddie Cairns
I think these pistons and the caliper they were in are fit for the dust bin at best.
Hamish
I replaced these on my previous classic an SP250. Very similar calipers and new pistons and seal kit worked fine.

I used a seal kit my dad had that included the little “O” rings between the 2 halves. They are just metal to metal mating surface no other gaskets or goo. The sp250 original workshop manual says inner bolts 57 - 63 lb ft outer bolts. 43 - 47 lb It was fine for few ‘000 miles before I changed it for my 3a hope the pics help and explain the inner and outer bolt description H

Kenrow
Does anyone know where you can get the internal o rings.? I thought they were unavailable, hence why you shouldn’t separate the caliper halves. Ken in California
Hamish
Ken you must have a local brake specialist to help. it appears to be just a small rubber type o ring. It doesn’t need to compress much but does need to be brake fluid safe. but failing a local source these guys in Cheshire really know their stuff and may help with posting some. http://www.classicarautomotive.co.uk This appears to be US based and shows the small o ring you could ask if they’ll supply it separately Austin Healey MGC Daimler SP250 TR4A TR250 Caliper Kit* https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250467762382 These guys I think https://www.sportsandclassics.com Most seal kits don’t have these small o rings H Edited March 6, 2021 by Hamish Website

I'd risk 50 p and strip a TR caliper to see if it was a comparable size..... I fitted them to my car back in 2004. Cheers Peter W

Cheers Peter W Hi Peter yes they were stainless on the SP250 brakes I did. apart from pads I haven't needed to touch my front 3a brakes and I can lock them even with wide sticky hillclimb tyres.
