TwinCamJohn
When I drive my TR3A there is no sound when I change gear. However, when I engage overdrive there is the usual click from the solenoid. But, with overdrive engaged when I change gear, as I come into neutral there is a similar click and as I select the next gear there is a click. It's quite pronounced; The overdrive seems to be working OK. Any thoughts?
RobH
If you have a standard system and keep the overdrive switched on, the overdrive solenoid will click in and out every time you change gear because the change operates the overdrive inhibit switches. i.e. as you go into neutral the solenoid will de-energise and as you go into the next gear the solenoid will re-energise even though you are not operating the switch. Fitting a logic unit will prevent that happening and requires you to re-engage the O/D manually each time after changing gear. Edited July 16, 2019 by RobH
TwinCamJohn
OK, thanks for the explanation, Rob. It just suddenly seemed much louder.
