KOB
For 20+ years I have had an original Kenlowe fan fitted on my 6 , last weekend the thermostat ( non original) failed so a replacement is needed. What is the on trend choice for thermostat to control a Kenlowe fan ? I visited their site and see they no longer supply the DIY market it seems. Thanks
RogerH
Why not fit a steel pump down pipe with the thermo switch fitting Pipe with fitting The Kenlow is only a fan, any thermo switch will work. Roger
KOB
Perfect, I thought there would be something more appropriate now. Many thanks Kevin
RogerH
Hi Kev, don;t forget an over ride switch and a warning light. Roger
Tim D.
In my case you don't need a light as the fan sounds like a jet engine and the current draw on startup is easily observed via the ammeter. Tim
RogerH
Hi Tim, you do not have a loud enough exhaust Roger

Waldi
Kevin, if you are going to buy the (SS) down pipe with a welded boss for a thermo switch, make sure you get the correct shape. There are 2 versions, they look similar, but the bends are different (I found out the hard way). The 2nd and correct item came from Revington, who also supplied the switch and gasket. I used a fused 30A relay (with a 20A fuse) on a “relay foot” that I installed in front of the engine bay, almost invisible. Purpose of the relay is to avoid that the high current for the fan (like 12A) does not run via the switch. I also installed an override switch under the dash. KOB
thank you for your input Waldi, It seems the Moss ss tube is not available, so I have decided to use a demon tweeks short pipe section cut into the top hose, question is "what is the ID of the TR6 tope hose" ? Can anyone help as I am away at the moment and cant measure mine. I want to get bits arriving on my return so I can get this issue sorted PDQ Thanks

How about TRShop and/or TRGB for the down pipe - much neater solution. Roger
Waldi
Hi Kevin, My correct SS pipe came from Revington. I preferred not to install a pipe in the top rubber hose because this reduces flexibility. Yes, I know, it has been don before. The “looks” was another aspect for me, with the sensor in the bottom pipe, you hardly spot it. I do not know the inside diameter of the tophose. Waldi
Drewmotty
It’s a simple soldering job to fit a 22mm brass boss to the radiator tank. They are readily available from Revotec/eBay etc.
TR 2100
The water temperature varies between the top of the radiator, various pipes and the bottom of the radiator. You may need to experiment a bit with different temperature thermo switches. My TR specialist garage strongly recommended using a brass boss in the top of the radiator for temperature measurement rather than the alternatives. AlanR
Steves_TR6
I’ve had the stainless bottom hose based sensor in place since 2012, driving a strong (140w) puller fan i dont know off hand what temp the sensor is, but the fan kicks in when the temp needle gets to half way and keeps the temp between the two dots, even this week in traffic after a motorway run ! so whilst i’d agree that a rad mounted sensor is logically better, the hose mounted one works fine steve
SteveB21
I have a 79-88 degC thermoswitch in the bottom hose stainless steel tube and it does the job with a Revotec "push" fan, even on days like today in stationary traffic. Moss IM50120 Cheers Steve
Trever the rever
I still have the Kenlow fan installed about 12 years ago with the lower hose steel tube installation fitted originally by Manvers Triumph. The fan sits on the front of the radiator. I had bought the kit and asked him to fit it (amongst other things at the time). However I had mislaid the override switch and it was never fitted! Maybe I’ve been lucky but after many years of 3k miles pa, inc the heat of Le Mans the fan switches on and off as design. Yes the ammeter and the rush of warm air sweeping up and around the door tells me all working well. (No fixed fan either). I am deliberating on changing it for a more modern design at some stage. Just when that’s the question!
matttnz
https://daviescraig.com.au/product/digital-thermatic-fan-switch-12v-24v-0444 The sensor slots in between radiator fins and can be adjusted to desired temperature. Has relays built in. Works a treat. Company does fans too if needed but your old Kenlow may still be ok

Thanks As they are just up the road from me and they did supply me with a new fan set 18 months ago when I went over to their premises, give them a phone call and see if you can twist their arm? In my view it is still the best idea to have an adjustable switch and not one with a fixed setting . Bruce.

Seems the sensor electronics weren't up to the amount of vibration etc. I see Kenlowe now don`t sell for the after market/classic car market any more and are only supplying OEM manufacturers. Stuart. KOB
Update; I sourced a SS pipe with boss from Rimmers at a very sensible price with otter switch. Pipe installed, cooling system re filled and now working on electrics with a relay to control the fan. Thanks all who contributed.
