Well after running the car on triple webers for a decade, albeit about 2000 miles in that time, I have bought a set of triple strombergs. The thing is. If I still lived in the UK, I could book my car into a rolling road specialist and have the carbs properly tuned. Theres only so much i can do with a colour tune and vacuum gauge. Webers are fantastic if properly set up.

So i eventually, by chance found a set of triple strombergs from another 6 in the USA and have bought them. Hopefully a bit less fussy and should help the engine behave under all driving conditions. Again, it's not the webers dont, but if not correctly tuned to the engine, can be a bit fussy. Dont fit them without being able to have a specialist rolling road tune them to the engine and your driving style. I also bought a heat shield to go with them. So in August I will remove the webers and do the conversion. If anyone at that ti.e wants a set of triple webers, with linkage and inlet manifold, let me know. 400 pounds should be more than fair enough.

Seems cheap, Hope you don't regret selling them.

john.

The cheaper they are the easier they are to sell. And seeing I have owned them for 10 years I am not losing out. Had my moneys worth. But as I said. I have to install the strombergs first. If I am happy the way they run then the webers will be sold. So keep your eyes open. End of August I will advertise them here. I am in Croatia so the postage will not be cheap. Another reason for me to sell them at a good price.

I agree that GBP400 is cheap for these carbs.

Why not at least wait until you have the triple Strombergs working well before selling the Webers? If/when you want to sell the Webers, please let me know, I will have them like shot. They would be ideal for my 2.5 litre GT6,  obviously with a rolling road session to set them up.

Tell you what thought. Between the webbers and the race pipe. Bloody hell it's a good sound.i mean realllllyyyy good. But I very rarely drive the car. In 24 years of owning it I haven't done 10 thousand miles. Probably about 6 if truth be told.

I have triple 40s on my car. They were on the car when I bought it 20 years ago. My first thought was to remove them and return the car to PI as it was originally, however I decided to live with them for a while before deciding. I’m glad I did. I had some previous experience with 40s on a Lotus Cortina so that was useful.I decided to book the car into Cambridge Motorsport the Monday after an international weekend and had the jetting setup on their rolling road.Since then I have happily maintained the carbs with colourtunes and a flow meter to keep everything in balance. So I trip to a rolling road in 20 years, that should be possible,I hope.

While you are waiting to fit the Strombergs why dont we talk about what is going on with the dcoe's ?. I totally agree that outside of the UK it is very hard to find someone with the knowledge, parts and equipment to set them up but it is not impossible and many of us have done it. I solved a multitude of issues with my config by setting the fuel height correctly and blocking off the accelerator pump bypass. For the TR6 there is probably a fairly narrow set of emulsion tube and jet options that will vary based on other factors like cam and compression ratio.

Well, Murray, you have a set of vintage Italians there. If I didn't already have (5) sets of triples with only (2) in service I'd buy yours.

Weber DCOEs are not " fussy ". They are not responsive to hoping or casual fiddling and will not perform well unless properly calibrated however. Once dialed in they don't move, and it is doable without rolling roads via trial and error as I and plenty of others have done. TR5/6 applications abound, so tuning data is available free of charge. I've done (3) different tunings on my TR250s plus a few others and will never consider any other fueling method for them, as the Webers deliver on all counts and are by far the most reliable and enduring component of the entire vehicle. Though it must ruffle feathers here and there no one has contested my speculating that TR6s would fetch 2-3X what they do today if TRIUMPH had chosen to fit DCOEs to them.

Triple Strombergs will not deliver what DCOEs will, assuming both options are optimally tuned. There is a recent case here in the 'States where a UK transplant converted from the former to the latter and is now enjoying TR6 nirvana; there are others to be sure.

I've done nearly 130,000 miles with mine.

Cheers,

Tom
