Drive up movie night, movie suggestions ?

Recommended Posts

Our club event calendar has a lot of driving events and shows from April though the end of October but we also host what we call a Drive Up Movie Night. Its like a drive in except we dont watch the movie from our cars as we did that once and got eaten alive by mosquitoes. Now we hold the event at the shop of one of our members where we can be inside and the bugs outside. The club provides pizza and salad and soft drinks. An inexpensive evening and a chance to get everyone together that can make it on a hot August evening.

We try and pick a movie that will appeal to all genders and demographics and if it has a British or British car theme so much the better. Past examples include both versions of the Italian Job, Kill the messenger (TR6),  Spinal Tap..

We dont have a movie tee'd up for this summer, looking for suggestions..

That is a great list Sean. Few of those movies are available here on Netflix or Amazon Prime but I have had good luck buying used movies on eBay.

Yesterday I watched Get Carter on Netflix. That movie has everything (cars, sex, porn, violence) so not a good choice for movie night especially if you care about Ford Anglias (crushed), Mk II jags or Sunbeam Alpines (pushed off the dock into the sea).. There is a scene at the end where it appears they are dumping coal waste into the sea. I found that hard to imagine so I looked it up and sure enough it was a thing to dump colliery waste into the ocean.

I know they are US movies but should add to the list "Vanishing Point" and also just for laughs "The Blues Brothers"

Stuart.

Two great movies Stuart. The problem with Vanishing Point is that all the way through the movie I would be thinking about the closing scene. The Blues Brothers we have all seen so many times but I'll keep it in mind. I also have a copy of Summer Holiday which I know I would enjoy but will probably be lost on everybody else.

Not British cars, but American Graffiti is my favourite.  Christine is a bit out there.  Smokey and the Bandit, anyone?

If you liked Spinal Tap, try Still Crazy.

it' s a comedy about a British rock band called Strange Fruit who split in the 70s.

for various reasons they reform and ......well you need to see it.

lots of famous British actors and comedians.....Bill Nighy, Billy Connelly......

you will not be disappointed !!!
