Best way to see if the water pump is working.

Recommended Posts

Hi all ,took the tr6 out and noticed the bottom of the rad was cold after 50 miles ,electric fan cutting in fine no boiling over but while in traffic the temp does rise quickly, what's the best way to check if the pump is working . Ali radiator thermo switch in bottom of the rad, heater gets hot.

That seems to have everyone stumped Nick.

I guess they are so simple that if the pulley is turning, then it must be pumping. You could take it off and check that the impellor is still attached and hasn't corroded away.

But if the fan cuts in and the sensor is in the bottom of the rad, then clearly it's not cold.

You could try swapping the top hose for clear pipe.

Only temporary for a visual test .

Hi unless you “pimp your ride” with Killerglass hoses.

I'd have thought that the thermostat is more likely to fail than the water pump.

If coolant flows through heater matrix ( heater on hot & not blocked ) and blows out hot air pump o.k.

If you jack up the front of the car a few inches and run the engine with the heater valve fully open, this will assist the purging of any air.

Sorry folks,

you NEED about one liter of air in the system.

There is no need the bleed the system in any special way.

Please do not overfill the system.

Ciao/ Cheers, Marco
