NigelH
Hi All, Now the proud owner of a TR4, after a spell with camper and mini's. Found out the clunking at the rear was loose damper bolts (thanks to the forum) Read that its a good idea to swap out with socket heads and loctite. Can anyone help with bolts sizes and lengths? Great forum, its helped me with a number of issues.. NigelH
Chilliman
Morning Nigel - welcome to the forum...and a fine choice of vehicle. I'm just in the process of swapping lever arm dampers on one of mine so in a position to measure for you. They are 3/8" UNF - 1" long high tensile socket heads which take a 5/16" allen key socket. The only thing I'd add is that the nuts on the back of mine are welded to the tower which makes things very easy to remove & replace the dampers, you may need to add another 1/4" to the length to allow for a spring washer below the nut on yours... hope that makes sense. It's a very simple change to make but well worth it...they do have a reputation for coming lose in the mounting and causing the clunk you've probably experienced because the original bolt set-up was so difficult to access & tighten properly. TR 2100
Nigel, Also be aware that often the holes in the chassis bracket become elongated due to previous 'knocking'. AlanR
Lebro
+1 did this on my '3 last year, only wish I had welded the nuts on the brackets when the body was off. Bob.
Waldi
Desr Nigel, welcome to this great forum. Additionally to the above: make sure you have thick and hard rings under the bolts, otherwise the soft alu body is damaged. Waldi
