WFTR Evolves

Recommended Posts

The WFTR website was launched over 6 years ago and has been growing ever since. But the layout hadn't changed and was getting a bit jaded.

Much hard work has been put in by a number of members and we now have something that is cleaner, modern and designed to work really well on a phone. This last requirement was paramount as over 70% of our visitors are using a phone to browse the site.

You can take a look at the new site here: https://wftr.co.uk/

All the old functionality still exists:

  • Events with registration and payments
  • Galleries and video integrated with dropbox for easy uploading
  • Members cars
  • Contact forms and commenting
  • Social media integration
  • Keep track of all the event you are attending

The big advantage of the new structure is the automation. As soon as an event or gallery is published is appears on the homepage. And the use of featured images means a much more visual and attractive UX.

The next big change is the addition of a shop. We have sourced a company that can produce one off clothing and accessories in a range of colours and styles that you will be able to order online for collection at club nights and events. There is even a plan for a personalised logo coming soon.

We like it. It does what we want. It might not work for you but if it does and you want to know how we did it let us know. And best of all it's free. It didn't cost us a penny.

It works really well and facilitates excellent communication and event management.

While galleries are great sometimes you need a bit more meat to find out what happened on the day. So we have started to write reports about the events member have attended. It's still in its infancy but stats already show people are finding and reading the reports:

Another change to the site is our shop. We have found a local supplier who can embroider or print pretty much anything. Even better there is no minimum order. This means we can get you a fleece in a range of colours and sizes with a WFTR logo showing your flavour of TR.

Again this is just the beginning. Once we know if members like the products we can increase the range:

For those who like this sort of thing, it was built using woocommerce and allows payment by PACS and PayPal. Dead easy to set up and configure and best of all it cost us nothing. We like free things

The only other change to the site is to publish out committee meeting minutes. This lets all our members know what's going on.

Great effort - good to see such a thriving and well publicised group.

I find it interesting that some groups are extremely active and well publicised and others (well .... let's just say) less so.
