Not sure about the hif type

HS6 would be the standard fit I believe.

Couple cheap sets on eBay at the moment for the TR7/dolomite/ tc2000 etc

these should be jetted and needled to suit I would imagine.

Many 4’s run Weber’s as well

Hi Lee,

the H6 was the original fitment.  HS6 would do nicely.

I believe people have fitted the HiF type but I have no knowledge of these.

You could buy new HS6 carbs and your away. If you buy second hand items then you may be into a rebuild situation and loose and financial benefit i buying cheap to start with.

If you have the early, straight inlet manifold, the H6 would be correct/original.  (FWIW that's what I have on mine, although this might finally be the year I fit my dual webers...)

However, the later, curved manifold is generally thought to be considerably better and that, I think, requires the HS6 (S for "short") not least because the longer manifold AND the longer carbs don't easily fit the space available.

Outside of that, does the HIF have significant benefits over the HS?

Best,

Tim

HS6 works just fine on the shorter TR3 manifold - I ran with that setup for decades, although I now have the longer 4A type (did not notice any difference !)

The HS6 has a much better choke system.

Differences of the HIF carb are:

Float chamber is integral to the carb (wrapped around the jet assy)

Cold starting is managed by a separate jet,

Temperature compensation is applied to the mixture setting.

Bob.
