Overdrive solenoid

Recommended Posts

If you happen to have an A-type OD where the solenoid is vertical: no. But it will need to be adjusted per the WSM instructions.

But your car may have a J-type OD: others can better tell you.

If it's a type A like mine ,no.  I'd adjust the solenoid as per the manual or this:

http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/AOD/AOD4/AOD4.htm

And check the gearbox oil while I'm in the area.

Buckeye has a section on J type overdrives but I've never had to work on one.

J type Overdrive.

I have a J type on one of my cars. Easy swap but no space to get a spanner on, no need to drain oil.

Look to borrow or buy a spanner, they are a  little like a crowfoot spanner but thinner.

Ten minute job with the right tool.

Thanks for replies, I have J Type overdrive and also bought a spanner so I’ll give it a go.

Thanks again

When I did mine I couldn't for the life of me get the solenoid undone, with a proper spanner.

I had a mate in the garage and asked him to try. He got it in a minute or two.

It can be stuck so keep persevering.
