Rear Bumper , holes for Tow bar !

Recommended Posts

I have one of these available , with the holes perfectly drilled already.

If anyone is contemplating doing this , maybe I have the answer for you.

I have seen Trailers and even small caravans being TR towed, maybe a little unusual,  but I am sure I will be corrected if not  !

Cheers Conrad.

I used to tow a sailing dingy, & also (but not at the same time) a camping trailer full of frame tent behind my '3.

Still got the tow bar, but not currently fitted.

In the early days of the club, Chris Sergison would arrive from the West country at meetings with a 2-wheel trailer.  At that time, Chris had the smartest sidescreen TR in the UK - and he used it a lot!

I fitted a tow bar to my TR4 in 1980 - it was from Watling Tow Bars and somewhere I know I have the original invoice and fitting  instructions - but I had to drill the bumper for the tow hitch - 35 years later it was a real pain in the backside to fill the holes and straighten the distortion it caused. Towbar no longer in use but in the “pile of bits”!

it was a very basic affair made out of angle iron which clamped around the chassis cross tubes but Urdu’s the trick and pulled another TR on a trailer all the way from Wales to Essex, and survived!

cheers

Rich
